According to a report in Variety, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman will produce the indie ensemble drama Parkland for their production company, Playtone.
Journalist and screenwriter Peter Landesman (Trade) will make his directorial debut on the project, which covers the events leading up to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963. The title refers to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where Kennedy (and later his alleged assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald) died, and the story focuses on a several characters in and around Dallas affected by Kennedy’s death, including Jackie Kennedy, FBI and Secret Service agents, a reporter, a young doctor, White House staff, Oswald’s brother, and businessman Abraham Zapruder, who unwittingly filmed infamous footage of the killing.
No casting has been announced, and it is unknown how much production, if any, will take place in Dallas.
